Heckscher Theatre

The Heckscher Theatre at El Museo del Barrio serves New York City's Latino community and its East Harlem neighborhood with performances and lectures. Renovations rejuvenated the rundown stage auditorium and provided badly needed stage facilities such as new rigging, drapery and stage lighting.

House improvements included providing accessibility to the front-of-house and the seating area.

Building-wide improvements included air conditioning - installed without disrupting the ceiling fabric - and new life safety systems. Custom seating, based on the original, was designed, the balcony was up-graded and a 'Green Room' and toilets created.

The project also included the air conditioning of the adjacent art gallery spaces, incorporating requirements for fine art preservation and sound output.
